Communing with other beings. Does it happen? Are there angels and demons all around us?

Reading an amazing novel, "Demon: a Memoir" referenced at the bottom of this page. The short story is that a book editor is approached by a demon who asks that his memoirs be published. The writer makes it seem that most of us are aware of the presence of spirit-beings around us all the time. She also makes the point that when most people think they've had contact with an angel, it's actually a demon posing as an angel.

I encourage you to get a copy and read it. Meditate on it. Look at the scripture references in the back and find some friends with whom you can chew on the study questions over some yummy food. This book is worth your time, it will change your life.

And now for a counterpoint. Check out Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark" (Random House, 1997). Central themes include explaining the scientific method and encouraging people to be skeptical.

Centuries ago people would claim nocturnal abduction by fairies (or elves or witches...). In the latter 20th century they'd experience anal-probling aliens from another world. These hallucinations have occured from the beginning of man's consciousness - some naturally occuring upon the dream state, others summoned from drug use or possibly from mental illness. Sagan describes a pattern in this phenomenon and how similar they are through out the centuries.

This is not to take away from a possible message from the author who Krisin mentions here. Plus, it's not an assault on anyone's personal spiritual beliefs. Faith doesn't require proof. However, be they demons or angels, people will interpret signs in a manner in which they're most comfortable.

It IS a good book. I'm moving more slowly through it than you did, but I'm loving it so far. And yes, I think we really are surrounded all the time.

kt -- welcome to blog world.

Possible reason for similar patterns throughout the centuries is the existence of the same celestial beings involved. Just a thought.

Anxious for you to read the book!

Touché!

TR once asked rhetorically: "What would you believe if no one told you what to believe?"
